I thought I would write a short post for those of you who are thinking about starting a blog or already have one, just because sometimes I can become lost and some clarity helps me to focus again. You need to know why you want to start your blog. What makes it interesting? Why will people want to read your blog? Whether it's fashion, fitness, beauty, lifestyle or interior design, you've got to love whatever it is you're writing about. I think as much as it's important to be passionate about your blog, you have to have a unique selling point to enable your blog to blossom organically into something you become very proud of. For those of you who would like to do a little more research into domain names, I would recommend 34SP.
Choosing your blog name:
One of the biggest challenges when starting out is what on earth to call your blog. I am the most impulsive soul you will ever meet so mine took me all of 30 seconds. I was sat with my Blogger tab open, curser waiting, until I had an epiphany that stumbled out of my mouth. I had said aloud to myself, "I just need to learn the ropes" and I had also been keen on the idea of having my surname in the mix, shortly after, Ropes of Holland was born. Although my blog is a Fashion Blog, my blog name doesn't exactly scream Fashion Blog. I'd say your blog name should have some relevance in it's title but it's not a complete must.
Blog branding and design:
When it comes to branding, you need to capture your own sense of style. Whether thats beautiful, elegant branding for a vintage clothes lover or bold minimalism for an interior blog that only showcases monochrome design inspiration. I used PipDig designs for mine and I couldn't be happier with how it emulates my sense of style.
